What had begun as the hunt for another job in the office service industry, turned into an amazing opportunity that continues to flourish with the next generation of family ownership.
On September 1/1984, Wayne and Adele Reid began a company they called C.S.S. Office Furniture Systems Service Inc., also known as CSS. So where did this all start? In the small town of Airdrie, just outside of the Calgary city limits, Wayne envisioned creating an office furniture service based upon being a one-man operation, complete with the “one call does it all” concept. Contacts, facility coordinators, and office coordinators began hearing of the service offerings and high level of customer satisfaction that Wayne brought, which helped grow his business and offerings. Never wanting to say no to a client meant that he was always willing to expand the business to consistently meet any changing needs. Shortly after the beginning stages of growth, Wayne and Adele moved into Calgary with their two young children to be closer to their increasing client base.
When they moved into Calgary it was then that the company really began to take shape. They leased their first off-site office and warehouse location. Before this, all the aspects to take care of business had been run from their home. As time went on, and the client’s needs continued to expand, so did CSS. On to another warehouse location, this one an astonishing 68,000+ square feet of total floor space! What an adventure and step towards the foundation of what the business currently is.
Things sure change when life happens suddenly. Wayne went to his final resting place in 2008, shortly after learning he had cancer just three months prior. Adele, working with family at her side, continued to maintain operation of the business while it holding true to the values that Wayne eastablished. During this time, it was our employees that certainly showed true dedication while they sustained the drive and passion that Wayne instilled in everyone he encountered.
